Seven Capital have gone live with their Public Consultation. However, this is only a week long. Their new website is www.swindonoasis.co.uk They published the images of the aerial shot of the Oasis plan, showing 710 apartments, two giant warehouses, no Sports Hall. The Oasis swimming pool image also raised concerns amongst Swindon locals, as the swimming pool appears divided up. How can a wave machine operate if it is divided up like that? Well the clue is on the left of the photo, it’s apparently a “wave ball” – a large circular like jacuzzi that generates waves. Presumably this is in a bid to save on energy and lifeguard costs, and claim it is “sustainable.” Quite frankly, it is awful. Take a look at them on YouTube.

People love the Oasis for it’s original and existing layout. They do not want it changed. Remember the pool and its features are also included in the listing of the dome, so we are unsure how they think they will get away with such major changes to the pool. The lifeguard observation pod, Tutans Tomb, 70s globe lamps and other features all appear missing in the CGI.

Swimmers at the Oasis enjoy the wave machine and Lagoon Pool how it is. What about the water cannon? Of course, add new slides and kids aqua play, but use the layout that is already there. We don’t want the Oasis wrecked. The main Lagoon Pool and Wave Machine were the Oasis main attractions from visitors from afar. It would be crazy to alter this, and put people off using it! I certainly wouldn’t go to the Oasis much if they change it like that. The current plan at the moment resembles an indoor splash park for toddlers. What about adults and teenagers that also enjoyed the Oasis? The only way the Oasis will work is if it comes back with the same pool layout as before. Swindon residents don’t want a cheap Oasis, they want the real deal back. They also want a Sports Hall included as a minimum. The new plans include a cafe, gym and bowling alley, and some golf simulator. But how many bowling alleys does Swindon need? A new one has just opened up over at Greenbridge, we don’t need more!

The week long public consultation has been criticised for being too short, and merely as a “tick boxing” exercise. Seven Capital are due to submit the planning application before the end of 2024, so they’ve already made up their mind what they want to do with the site! The comments from the public is surely lip service?

People are encouraged to submit their feedback on their consultation website by 12pm on Wednesday 27th November 2024. Once this ends, you can still email them at info@swindonoasis.co.uk, but the website says these later comments may not be included in the final submission. Keep sending them in. We are at a critical stage with the campaign now, and we are more determined, with your help, that we can get an Oasis back we all know and love. People are also strongly encouraged to make their voices heard at Seven Capital’s public exhibition of the plans on Tuesday, 26th November 2024 at North Star College, from 1pm-7pm. You will be able to see the plans and meet Seven Capital’s project team.

The consultation got off to a rocky start, the domebusters were originally missing off the plan, but were included a day or so later. The website promises that the wave machine is included, but what it does not tell you is that they won’t come back how we know them, unless we all fight this. Feel free to comment below on this page how you feel.

The powers that be will be reading this to understand how people think about the plans.

Comment below. Thanks for continuing to support the campaign.
